Unnamed victim, Buffalo, N.Y.: shot on Grant Street as evening rush turns deadly

Buffalo feels heavy after a quiet afternoon on Grant Street was shattered by gunfire. It happened in the 1000 block, where people were going about their day before everything changed in seconds.

Police say officers arrived shortly after 2:30 p.m. responding to reports of a shooting. When they got there, they found an adult man on the ground with a gunshot wound to the chest.

First responders tried to save him right there on the street. They worked fast and did everything they could, but the injuries were too severe. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

The victim’s name has not been released. Officials say they are still working to notify family members before making it public. That part of the investigation is still being handled with care.

Detectives from the homicide unit moved quickly after the scene was secured. They started talking to witnesses and gathering physical evidence from the area to piece together what happened.

Within a short time, investigators identified a suspect in the shooting. That led to an arrest as the case began to move into a more serious phase.

Police have charged 28-year-old Saleh Mohamed of Cheektowaga with second-degree murder. It is a Class A-I felony under New York law, one of the most serious charges in the state.

As the investigation deepened, another layer of concern emerged. Authorities are now also looking at a possible link between this shooting and a separate triple homicide case in Cheektowaga, where three people were found dead at a residence tied to the same suspect.

Buffalo and Cheektowaga police are now working together, sharing information as they try to understand whether the cases are connected or only related by circumstance. For now, nothing has been confirmed publicly.
The investigation is still active. Police say more details will come out as they build a clearer timeline of events around both incidents.
