Laura “Ellie” Branagin Danville: Wellness Clinic Co-Owner Found Dead After Family’s Welfare Check Turns Tragic

What started as a worried phone call from family members turned into a heartbreaking scene on a quiet Danville street Monday afternoon after police discovered a husband and wife dead outside their Edgewood Drive home.

Indiana State Police said deputies were called to the residence around 1 p.m. after relatives could not reach 52-year-old Laura “Ellie” Branagin. Family members reportedly became alarmed when repeated calls and messages went unanswered, leading authorities to conduct a welfare check at the home.

Investigators said when Hendricks County deputies arrived, they encountered Laura’s husband, 51-year-old Brian Branagin, moving in and out of the house while carrying a rifle. Officers repeatedly ordered him to drop the weapon as additional law enforcement agencies rushed to the neighborhood to assist.

According to police, the tense standoff escalated when Brian Branagin allegedly pointed the rifle toward deputies and officers outside the home. Multiple officers then opened fire, striking him. Authorities said emergency aid was immediately provided, but he died at the scene.

After securing the property, officers searched for Laura Branagin inside the house but could not find her. Investigators later discovered her body in a grassy area outside the residence. Officials confirmed her death was not caused by police gunfire, though investigators have not publicly released the exact cause of death.

The loss hit especially hard in Brownsburg, where Laura “Ellie” Branagin was widely known as a nurse practitioner and co-owner of Total Body Wellness. Friends, patients, and coworkers described her as compassionate, hardworking, and deeply committed to helping people improve their health and lives. The wellness clinic called her passing a devastating loss for both the business and the community she served.

Neighbors in the usually peaceful Danville area said the heavy police presence and gunfire left many shaken. Several nearby residents watched from a distance as officers surrounded the property for hours during the active investigation.

Indiana State Police and the Hendricks County Coroner’s Office continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding Laura Branagin’s death. Authorities have not announced whether any additional evidence was recovered from the property, and no final ruling has been released.
