Alcona County woke up to heartbreak Monday morning after Ryan Bishop, a 26-year-old from Montrose, lost his life in a quiet stretch of highway that suddenly turned deadly. Just after sunrise, a routine drive became a final one, leaving a family and community stunned.
According to deputies, Bishop was heading north on M-65 around 6:10 a.m. His 2017 Chevrolet Silverado drifted off the roadway a short distance south of Sawmill Road in Curtis Township. The reason why is still unclear.

The truck went down into a ditch, went airborne, and slammed into a large tree lining the road. The impact was violent and unforgiving. First responders arrived quickly, but the damage had already been done.
Alcona EMS pronounced Bishop dead at the scene. The pickup truck was owned by Dubois Electric of Indian River, adding another layer of loss for coworkers who knew him beyond the job.
Investigators say there are no signs Bishop was speeding. There is also no indication that alcohol or drugs played any role in the crash. For now, the road itself holds the unanswered questions.
The sheriff’s office continues to piece together what caused the truck to leave the roadway. Even small details matter in cases like this, where nothing obvious explains the outcome.
Ryan Bishop’s death has left a heavy silence behind. Friends remember a young man with plans ahead of him. In Alcona County, that stretch of M-65 now carries a story of life cut short far too soon.
