Randolph County: Angush Blu Dies in Lumber Truck Crash That Sparks Wildfire Near Bethel Lucas Road

Randolph County: Angush Blu was killed Tuesday afternoon after a violent tractor-trailer crash along NC Highway 134 near Bethel Lucas Road.

The truck, loaded with lumber, was heading northbound when it suddenly crossed the centerline. It left the roadway and pushed deep into a wooded stretch, hitting several trees before coming to a stop.

The impact was severe enough to tear through the vehicle. The shifting lumber load split the cab apart, turning the scene into a fast-moving emergency.

Moments later, flames erupted from the wreckage. The fire quickly spread from the truck into nearby dry vegetation, setting off a wildfire in the surrounding area.

Emergency responders arrived and found a chaotic scene with smoke rising from the woods and debris scattered across the crash site. Angush Blu was pronounced dead at the scene.

Fire crews worked alongside the North Carolina Forest Service to contain the blaze. The wildfire burned about 1.3 acres before it was fully brought under control.

Authorities kept the road closed for hours while troopers investigated and crews cleared the area. Traffic was diverted as the scene remained active through the afternoon.

Investigators say they still do not know why the truck crossed the centerline. The exact cause of the crash has not yet been determined and remains under review.
