GROSSE TETE, Louisiana residents are trying to make sense of a sudden loss after a fatal crash on Interstate 10 early Tuesday that claimed the life of 51-year-old Phillip Scott of Albany. The wreck happened just before dawn near the Iberville–West Baton Rouge parish line on the eastbound lanes of the interstate, leaving the usually busy highway closed for hours and the local community in shock.
According to State Police, traffic had come to a stop because of construction work just after 4 a.m. when Scott’s box truck failed to slow and struck the back of a parked 18-wheeler. Investigators say it’s still unclear why Scott didn’t stop in time, and troopers are continuing to sort through the details. Despite wearing his seat belt, Scott suffered fatal injuries and died at the scene. A passenger in the truck, also restrained, was taken to a hospital with minor injuries.
