Union, New Jersey — A quiet evening inside a Chick-fil-A on Route 22 turned deadly when gunfire broke out, leaving a 23-year-old New York City man, Malek Shepherd, dead and several others injured. The shooting has left a community shaken and searching for answers.
Authorities say the incident happened around 9:00 p.m. on April 11. Union Police responded after reports of shots fired inside the restaurant. When officers arrived, they found chaos inside the fast-food location, with multiple victims suffering from gunshot wounds.



In total, seven people were struck during the shooting. Malek Shepherd, who was inside the restaurant as a customer, was pronounced dead at the scene. Six other victims were rushed to nearby hospitals, where they were treated for injuries described as non-life-threatening.
