Birmingham, Ala.: Chase Alan Murray Killed After Early Morning Interstate 65 Crash

Birmingham, Ala.: The life of Chase Alan Murray, 28, ended in a sudden and tragic sequence of events on Interstate 65 early Tuesday morning.

The Jefferson County Coroner’s Office confirmed Murray, of Hayden, died after a crash near the 17th Street North exit. The incident began around 5:27 a.m. when two vehicles were involved in a collision on the interstate.

After the initial impact, both vehicles came to a stop on opposite shoulders of the highway. Traffic was already moving through the area as the morning commute was beginning to build.

Murray exited his vehicle after the crash. Investigators say he then attempted to cross the interstate on foot, moving through active lanes of traffic.
While he was in the roadway, an oncoming vehicle struck him. The impact was severe and immediately life-threatening.

Emergency responders arrived quickly, but Murray was pronounced dead at the scene at approximately 6:03 a.m. despite all efforts.

Authorities have not released further details about the driver involved in the second collision. The investigation is still active as officials work to piece together how both crashes unfolded that morning.

The incident has left a young man’s life cut short in seconds, turning an early commute into a scene of loss and unanswered questions.
