The quiet stretch of Adams County turned chaotic Wednesday afternoon after a violent two-vehicle crash claimed the life of 62-year-old Charles E. Buie and left several others hurt, including a young child. What began as a routine drive quickly unraveled into a scene of flashing lights, sirens, and heartbreak at a busy highway intersection.
The crash happened around 3:51 p.m. at the crossing of Highway 84 and Highway 61, a well-traveled junction known to locals. According to early findings, a 2024 Nissan Sentra driven by 30-year-old Megan Miller of Albany, Louisiana, was heading west on Highway 84 when it collided with a 2009 Nissan Versa moving north on Highway 61.

Inside the Versa was a small group of passengers, including Charles E. Buie. The impact was severe. Emergency crews rushed to the scene and worked quickly to stabilize the injured. Buie suffered critical injuries and was transported to a nearby hospital, where doctors later pronounced him dead.
Also in the Versa were 79-year-old driver Bertha Buie, 77-year-old Virginia Morgan, and a 6-year-old child. All three were injured in the crash and taken to the hospital for treatment. Officials have not released detailed updates on their conditions, leaving families and the community waiting anxiously for news.
Megan Miller, the driver of the Sentra, survived the crash and did not suffer life-threatening injuries. Still, the emotional weight of the incident is expected to linger, as investigators work to understand exactly what led to the collision.
Authorities with the Mississippi Highway Patrol remain on the case, carefully piecing together the sequence of events. Investigators are examining all possible contributing factors, from right-of-way issues to road conditions at the time of the crash.
For now, the loss of Charles E. Buie hangs heavy over Adams County. What should have been an ordinary afternoon ended in tragedy, leaving behind injured survivors and a family now facing an unexpected and painful goodbye.
