The quiet stretch of highway outside Paso Robles turned tragic late Sunday night when a motorcycle crash claimed the life of 47-year-old Russell Palomino, a man remembered by friends and family as energetic, adventurous, and deeply devoted to the people in his life.
Authorities say Palomino, who lived in Visalia, was riding his 2024 Harley-Davidson eastbound on State Route 46 shortly after 9:30 p.m. on March 8. The crash happened near Geneseo Road, just east of town, on a road that cuts through rolling countryside and vineyards. For reasons still being examined, the motorcycle struck the rear of a 2019 Toyota Corolla traveling in the same direction ahead of him.

Investigators with the California Highway Patrol say the impact was severe. Palomino was thrown from the motorcycle and suffered fatal injuries at the scene. Emergency crews responded quickly, but there was nothing they could do.
Inside the Toyota were four people. Officials said none of them were injured in the collision. The vehicle lost control after the impact and crossed the westbound lanes before coming to rest on the shoulder of the highway.
For those who knew Palomino, the loss is difficult to put into words. Friends describe him as someone who loved the open road and the freedom that came with riding. Motorcycles were more than a hobby for him. They were part of how he experienced the world.
Family members say he also loved spending time with the people closest to him. Whether it was a ride through California’s scenic highways or a quiet moment with loved ones, Palomino lived with enthusiasm and warmth that left a lasting mark on many lives.
Back home in Visalia, the news has spread quickly through the community. Messages of support and condolences have poured in for the family, as friends remember the laughter, energy, and kindness he brought into their lives.
Investigators with the California Highway Patrol’s Templeton area office continue to review the crash. Officials say it remains unclear whether drugs or alcohol played any role in the collision.
As the investigation continues, those who knew Russell Palomino say his memory will live on in the stories shared by friends, the miles he rode, and the deep connections he built along the way.
