A quiet Sunday morning in San Carlos turned into heartbreak when 14-year-old Angelina Cielo Santillan Coronel lost her life in a sudden and violent crash. The teenager, described by loved ones as a bright and loving presence, died at the scene after the car she was riding in veered off the road and slammed into a tree.
The crash happened late Sunday morning along Navajo Road, near Golfcrest Drive. Police say a westbound Mazda sedan suddenly drifted onto the sidewalk before striking a pedestrian. The vehicle then continued forward and crashed into a tree in the center median. The impact was severe.

Angelina was seated in the rear of the car. She did not survive the collision. Emergency responders arrived quickly, but she was pronounced dead at the scene, leaving family members and the community in shock.
Inside the car were several members of the same family. The driver, a 35-year-old woman believed to be Angelina’s mother, suffered a fractured ankle and was taken to the hospital. Two young boys, ages 1 and 8, were also in the vehicle. They were checked after the crash and did not suffer serious injuries.
The pedestrian who was struck, an 18-year-old, survived but was hospitalized with a concussion and an arm injury. Authorities say that person is expected to recover, though the emotional toll of the incident is still unfolding.
In the hours after the crash, family members took to social media to share their grief. They described Angelina as their “sunshine,” a girl full of warmth and life. Messages poured in from friends and relatives asking for prayers, not only for Angelina but for her injured mother and siblings.
Police have not yet said what caused the crash. Investigators are working to determine what led the car to suddenly leave the roadway. For now, a family is left mourning a young life cut short, and a neighborhood is left trying to make sense of a moment that changed everything.
