AIKEN COUNTY: Jefferson Davis Highway Crash Kills Two; Identities Pending

Warrenville — Two people riding a Kawasaki motorcycle were killed Sunday morning when their bike struck a Subaru on Jefferson Davis Highway, Aiken County officials said.

The collision happened about 10:51 a.m. in the 2000 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, Aiken County Coroner Darryl Ables said. A 2026 Kawasaki motorcycle traveling westbound struck a 2020 Subaru. The motorcycle operator and a passenger were pronounced dead at the scene at about 11:00 a.m.

The Subaru driver survived and was taken to a local hospital with injuries that officials have not publicly detailed. Both deceased suffered significant thermal injuries that have so far prevented positive identification. The coroner’s office said next-of-kin notification is pending.

Autopsies are scheduled next week in Newberry to help identify the two victims and to determine exact causes of death. The Aiken County Coroner’s Office is working with the South Carolina Highway Patrol on the ongoing investigation. Authorities said the circumstances of the collision remain under investigation and more information will be released as it becomes available.
