Maddison Hayden, Lowell: Bright life cut short after an impaired late-night trail ride goes horribly wrong.

It takes only a second for everything to change. For the small town of Lowell, that second happened late on a clear Thursday night when a fun ride turned into an absolute nightmare. Maddison Hayden was only 22 years old, full of life, and had her whole future ahead of her. Now, her family and friends are left trying to pick up the pieces after a devastating UTV rollover took her away.

The crash happened right out on Newton Road, close to where it meets Cheney Road. It was a typical quiet evening until the emergency calls started rolling in around 10:23 PM. First responders rushed to the scene as fast as they could, hoping for the best but preparing for the worst. When they arrived, they found a 2021 Polaris RZR side-by-side flipped completely upside down right in the middle of the roadway.

Emergency crews did absolutely everything they could to save Maddison. Sadly, the injuries she took from the heavy impact were just too severe, and she passed away right there at the scene. It turns out she was riding as a passenger and was not wearing a seatbelt when the vehicle tipped over. The shock of her sudden loss has left a massive cloud hanging over everyone who knew her.

While Maddison lost her life, the man behind the wheel walked away without a single scratch. Authorities identified the driver as 27-year-old Randy Lemieux II, a local resident from Lowell. He was wearing his seatbelt during the crash and did not need any medical treatment. But as police began asking questions, the story took a much darker and more frustrating turn for the community.

State troopers noticed right away that Lemieux seemed completely out of it. After putting him through a series of sobriety tests, they arrested him on suspicion of driving under the influence. Police believe that high speed on the dry gravel road played a massive role in why the vehicle lost control and flipped. Just like that, a careless decision turned a casual summer night into a fatal tragedy.

Back in Woodbury where Maddison lived, the heartbreak is incredibly deep. People remember her as a total sweetheart who always had an infectious smile that could light up any room. She was the kind of person who always put her friends first and went out of her way to lift people up. Now, those same friends are flooding social media with beautiful tributes, trying to hold onto the joy she brought them.

As the town grieves, the legal system is moving forward to hold the driver accountable. Lemieux was shipped off to the Northern State Correctional Facility and held on a ten-thousand-dollar bail. He is facing serious charges of DUI with death resulting in court. Meanwhile, Maddison’s family is preparing to say their final goodbyes, praying that her kind and loving spirit will rest in eternal peace.
