LANCASTER COUNTY: Tyler Halbleib Killed on Porch After Late-Night Argument, Bradley Yinger Arrested

A quiet street in Lancaster County turned into a crime scene late Saturday night after a dispute between two housemates ended with gunfire and a young man dead on his own porch.

Police say 24-year-old Tyler J. Halbleib of Elizabethtown was fatally shot just before midnight on the first block of Beech Lane. When officers arrived around 11:54 p.m., they found Halbleib lying on the front porch of a residence with a gunshot wound to his chest. A resident of the home was already trying to save him, pressing on the wound while emergency crews rushed to the scene.

Paramedics worked to keep him alive, but the injuries were severe. Halbleib was pronounced dead early Sunday morning at about 1:35 a.m. The death was later ruled a homicide.

Investigators say the violence grew out of a heated argument inside the home where several people lived together. Witnesses told police that tensions had been building through the night. At one point, Halbleib and 27-year-old Bradley Yinger stepped outside to continue the argument on the porch.

Security footage from a door camera captured part of what happened next. According to charging documents, the two men spoke on the porch for roughly fifteen minutes. During that time, Yinger could be heard saying, “I put guns on you,” while holding a handgun.

Police say the footage shows Yinger pointing the weapon toward Halbleib before a gunshot rang out. Halbleib collapsed on the porch. Investigators say Yinger then got into a vehicle and drove away from the scene.

The escape did not last long. Authorities say Yinger crashed his vehicle into a tractor-trailer around 12:08 a.m. in East Donegal Township. When officers searched the vehicle, they recovered two firearms, including the weapon believed to have been used in the shooting.

Yinger was taken to Lancaster General Hospital for treatment of injuries from the crash. After receiving medical care, he was taken into custody and arraigned Monday afternoon.

He now faces several serious charges, including criminal homicide, discharging a firearm into an occupied structure, terroristic threats, and recklessly endangering another person. Because of the severity of the accusations, a judge denied bail. Yinger is currently being held at Lancaster County Prison as the case moves forward.

Police say the investigation remains active as detectives continue piecing together the moments leading up to the deadly encounter on Beech Lane.
