Baton Rouge Edwyn Williams Killed in Early Morning Shooting at Howell Place Apartments

BATON ROUGE — An ordinary Thursday morning turned into heartbreak when 18-year-old Edwyn Williams was shot and killed at an apartment complex off Plank Road.

According to the East Baton Rouge Parish Coroner’s Office, the shooting happened around 6 a.m. at The Reserve at Howell Place. Williams was found inside a vehicle parked in the complex lot, suffering from a gunshot wound. Emergency crews rushed to the scene, but despite their efforts, he was pronounced dead there.

He was just 18. An age when most young people are mapping out their next move, thinking about school, work, or simply figuring out life one step at a time. Instead, his story ended in a parking lot as the sun was coming up.

Family and friends are now left to carry the weight of that loss. Those who knew Edwyn say he was more than a headline. He was a son. A friend. A young man with his own voice and dreams. His death has shaken loved ones who are trying to make sense of how something so sudden could happen.

Residents at the apartment complex were stunned. What should have been the quiet start of a weekday morning quickly became a scene filled with flashing lights and unanswered questions. Neighbors woke up to news no community ever wants to hear.

The Baton Rouge Police Department is investigating the shooting. Detectives are working to piece together what led to the violence. So far, authorities have not released details about a suspect or a motive. The case remains open as officers search for answers.

In the meantime, grief hangs heavy. Losing someone so young leaves a deep mark. It forces families and communities to pause and reflect on how fragile life can be. Edwyn Williams’ life, though short, mattered. And those who loved him are holding tight to the memories he leaves behind.
