Louisville’s California neighborhood was shaken Thursday night after 38‑year‑old Jashaun Brown was shot and killed on Garland Avenue.
Police were called just before 10 p.m. to the 1600 block after neighbors reported gunfire. When officers arrived, they found Brown on the pavement with a gunshot wound. He was unresponsive and later pronounced dead at the scene.

Friends and family rushed to the area, some holding back tears as officers taped off the street. Brown was known in the neighborhood as someone who always had a laugh and looked out for younger kids on the block.
The Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit took over the scene, speaking quietly with witnesses and photographing evidence. So far, no one has been arrested, and police have not released information on suspects or what led up to the shooting.
People who live nearby say they are scared and want answers. “He didn’t deserve this,” one neighbor said. “We just want somebody to talk.”
Authorities say the investigation is active, and they are asking anyone with information to come forward to help piece together what happened. Community members are left grieving and hoping for justice as the investigation continues.
