Louisville’s California neighborhood is the scene of a growing police probe after the fatal shooting of 38‑year‑old Jashaun Brown on Garland Avenue Thursday night.
Officers responded around 9:50 p.m. to reports of gunfire. When they reached the 1600 block, Brown was already on the ground with a critical gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead before medics could transport him.

Detectives from the Louisville Metro Police Homicide Unit combed the street for shell casings and spoke with bystanders who said they heard several shots but saw little else. So far, no suspects have been named or arrested.
Investigators are piecing together Brown’s last moments and following up on tips from people who were in the area that night. Police have asked anyone with information to reach out through the department’s anonymous tip line.
Friends remember Brown as a quiet man who kept to himself, someone who worked hard and cared deeply for his family. They say the community feels the loss sharply.
As law enforcement continues its work, neighbors say they want more police presence and answers about what sparked the violence that took Brown’s life.
