CLARKSVILLE, Ohio – Brooke Gordon and Her Five Children Lost in Early Morning House Fire

Clarksville woke before dawn Tuesday to a tragedy that has left a small Ohio community reeling. At about 6:40 a.m., a fire broke out at a home on West Main Street. When firefighters arrived minutes later, flames and thick smoke were pouring from the two-story house. Inside, they found the bodies of a mother and her five children in an upstairs bedroom. They were later identified as Brooke Gordon, 35, and her children: Zayden, 10; Hudson, 8; Ashton, 6; Bostyn, 2; and nine‑month‑old Tomlyn. All had died in the blaze.

Crews managed to pull one adult male from the first floor and rushed him to a nearby hospital. That man, identified by family as Tommy Allen Jr., Brooke’s fiancé and father of the children, survived but suffered serious injuries. Firefighters battled intense conditions as parts of the staircase collapsed, making it nearly impossible to reach the second‑floor victims before the flames took hold. Eight firefighters were also hurt, treated for smoke inhalation, and released.

The house fire dealt a profound shock across the tight‑knit Clinton County town. Neighbors described seeing the glow of the blaze from yards away and watching first responders desperately try to control the inferno. “It was completely engulfed by the time I pulled up,” one witness recalled, his voice tight with disbelief. Local officials said this was not something anyone in the one‑stoplight community expected to wake up to.

Three of the children killed attended schools in the Clinton‑Massie Local School District. The district released a statement saying grieving students, staff and families are leaning on each other and beginning to process the unimaginable loss together. Counselors and mental health professionals are being made available to help children and faculty cope with the shock.

Behind the rescue tape, neighbors and strangers alike have rallied to support Allen as he begins the long road to recovery and rebuild a life that now feels unrecognizable. A fundraiser organized by friends has raised tens of thousands of dollars to help with medical and funeral costs, housing, and other urgent needs. Businesses in nearby towns have announced plans to donate portions of their proceeds in the coming days to the same cause.

Investigators with the Ohio State Fire Marshal’s Office and local authorities are still working to determine exactly what sparked the blaze. Early reports suggest it spread quickly, leaving little chance for escape once it took hold. There has been no official cause released yet.

As the sun set over Clarksville later that day, residents placed flowers and candles near the fire scene, sharing stories of the Gordon children laughing on playgrounds and Brooke’s gentle care for her family. The loss hangs heavily in the air, a reminder of how swiftly ordinary life can be shattered.
