Josiah Lamar Williams was just five years old when gunfire shattered the night at the Victory Park Apartments in Tyler, Texas. The complex sits along the 2700 block of North Grand Avenue, just north of Texas College, where residents say Friday night turned from normal to terrifying in seconds.
Police say officers rushed to the scene after multiple 911 calls reported a burst of gunfire. When they arrived, they found a chaotic situation unfolding across the apartment grounds, with residents scattering and emergency lights cutting through the darkness.

Investigators confirmed that several people were involved in the shooting, including young Josiah, who was struck during the incident. Family members later identified him as the child caught in the violence, a detail that quickly spread through the shaken community.
Authorities have not released Josiah’s current condition. That silence has only deepened concern among neighbors and family members who are holding on to hope while waiting for updates from medical teams and investigators.
Residents described hearing a rapid series of gunshots before everything erupted into panic. Some said they dropped to the floor inside their homes, while others rushed to get children away from windows as sirens approached.
Police Lt. Tim Hutson said detectives are still working to piece together exactly what happened. He noted that the involvement of a minor has limited the amount of information that can be released at this stage of the investigation.
The neighborhood remains on edge as officers continue interviewing witnesses and collecting evidence. No suspects have been confirmed in custody, and authorities say the investigation is still active and developing.
